This month we interviewed the owner/managers of our favourite Myoko Lodges. Here is what Brendon & Daniel from Base Camp The Lodge, had to share with World Snowfaris. Any local tips you want to know, just ask this knowledgeable crew.
Snow: What brought you to this part of the world to have your own lodge/s?
Brendon: Many years of working and skiing in Japan
Daniel: Travelled all over Japan for 8 years, was looking to buy a house, but bought a lodge instead.
Snow: What nationality are you and your staff?
Base Camp: Predominately Australian, we have two Japanese staff as well.
Snow: What’s most unique about your property/location?
Base Camp: Quiet forest feel with warm Australian hospitality. We are a Family friendly place, that has been freshly renovated with Western Style comforts. We have a restaurant, bar and plenty of chill-out space as well. We have plenty of space around us for parking as we are away from the congestion found within the main streets of the other resorts.
Snow: What is your go-to favourite food/restaurant/bar?
Brendon: My kids call it the greasy table restaurant but its great local food and sorry don't know its Japanese name.
Daniel: We have our own Bar, and my favourite food in our restaurant is the variety we have Like Pork Belly, Roast Beef, Thai Curries, Eggs Benedict, French Toast, and a dessert bar fit for a variety of people.
Snow: We’re asking for secrets now… but please can you highlight your number one ski runs and why?
Brendon: Lotte Arai and Seki Onsen and Suginohara
Daniel: Seki Onsen. On Powder days, it is a natural bowl. But Akakura Kanko is great for our first-timers and guests with little children.
Snow: Which month is your fave (Dec-Apr) and why? Any special festivals on the calendar for next season?
Brendon: Late Feb- March no crowds, fresh snow and blue skies.
Daniel: January. It brings in the New Year and there are plenty of festivals to attend as well.
Snow: What is your top spot for a weekend away or end of season holiday?
Brendon: Thailand or Bali
Daniel: Byron Bay
Snow: What new projects/lodge improvements are on the agenda for next season?
Base Camp: New Bathrooms and possibly larger bar lounge area
Snow: Can you share a quirky fact we may not know about you or your staff?
Brendon: I can cook as well as all the other jobs around the lodge :)
Daniel: Its a bit cliché, but we really do like to give our guests the best time possible; through food, local knowledge and a relaxed environment.
Snow: Great catching up again guys, we look forward to great reviews from our next season guests as per usual. Cheers, World Snowfaris Team.
