It's been truly inspiring to hear the enthusiasm and motivation behind those snow enthusiasts who have taken the plunge to own and run their own reliable and totally fabulous Myoko lodge. Put your feet up and relax while you dream of your next adventure... to Myoko next season? Owner/Managers from the team at Ikigai Lodge (Benny, Masa, Sion, Pete and Enrico) offer some great insights into this fabulous Japanese ski village...
Snow: What brought you to this part of the world to have your own lodge?
Ikigai Lodge: A holiday! We were actually on a snow trip ourselves... We've always dreamed of having some sort of holiday home in the snow and when we met up on an overseas trip to Japan, we knew all of our dreaming and scheming had to end here, in Myoko!
Snow: What nationality are you and your staff?
Ikigai Lodge: Australian and Japanese
Snow: What’s most unique about your property/location?
Ikigai Lodge: The Gym, the Location and our Hospitality!
Snow: What is your go-to favourite food/restaurant/bar?
Ikigai Lodge: Can't beat a spicy hotpot from Cha Cha, the fresh sushi from the boys at Eight or Soba noddles from Yabu Soba in Myoko Town!
Snow: We’re asking for secrets now… but please can you highlight your number one ski runs and why?
Ikigai Lodge: We LOVE Akakura Kanko! Nothing beats fresh tracks on Champion A and there are epic little trees that you can sneak in and out of everywhere. Plus, it's easy to make first lift as it's right across the road from Ikigai.
Snow: Which month is your fave (Dec-Apr) and why? Any special festivals on the calendar for next season?
Ikigai Lodge: Late December and February, for sure. Less crowds...if you can call Myoko crowded anyway!
Snow: What is your top spot for a weekend away or end of season holiday?
Ikigai Lodge: This is tough! Japan is such a beautiful and culturally rich country- there are so many options! Probably Tokyo- a change of scenery from the mountains, a city that never sleeps that has boundless of activities to do. Our fave- op-shopping in Harajuku!
Snow: What new projects/lodge improvements are on the agenda for next season?
Ikigai Lodge: The 'Mini - Lounge'. We originally called this the kids room but hey, deep down we're all kids.
Snow: Can you share a quirky fact we may not know about you or your staff?
Ikigai Lodge: There's 5 of us so there's quirks abound amongst us all...But our secret weapon to our success is the man, the myth, the legend Masa. A Japanese-German, born in Paris brought up in America and currently living in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. He speaks too many languages to count, is a better window cleaner than any professional, is an incredible surfer and bargain hunter and LOVES listening to heavy rap music. He has so many stories to share- so when you visit, sit down for a sake and a chat!
Thanks for your time guys, we can't wait for our guests to experience Ikigai this coming season. We looking forward to catching up with you soon.
